The Helix Midnight is a bed-in-a-box that pairs memory foam

The Helix Midnight is a bed-in-a-box that pairs memory foam comfort layers with a base of wrapped coils to create an affordable hybrid mattress with exceptional support and pressure relief. The bed has a medium-firm feel that should accommodate sleepers of most body types and sleeping positions, but is also available in Helix Luxe and Elite models for people who want more luxurious materials and features.

Helix offers a free 100-night sleep trial for all Helix mattresses, including the Midnight. This allows you to test the mattress in your home for a period of time and return it if it doesn’t suit your needs. Helix also offers a 15-year limited warranty that covers defects and deterioration in the mattress, but excludes normal wear and tear, as well as changes in personal preference and weight.

When we tested the Buy Helix Midnight Mattress, it performed very well in all categories, with a slight edge in pressure relief and moderate bounce. It also scored above average in cooling, with a faster material response time and better-than-average motion transfer performance. However, it did take longer to off-gas than the average mattress, which may be an issue for some customers who are concerned about odors.

The top layer of the Helix Midnight is a slow-moving memory foam that delivers the familiar, body-hugging feel many sleepers enjoy. It’s especially supportive for side sleepers, and will cradle shoulders and hips. It also relieves pressure on the spine, reducing the risk of developing tight muscles and pain in these areas over time. Back and stomach sleepers of all weights should find the Helix Midnight comfortable, but heavier back sleepers may prefer a firmer mattress for adequate lumbar support.

A thin layer of responsive foam serves as a transition layer between the comfort foams above and the coils below. This layer adds some extra bounce to the bed and improves its overall responsiveness. It also improves the mattress’s ability to prevent sagging over time.

Helix also uses a unique cooling fabric that the company calls HelixGel on the Midnight’s cover. This technology combines gel particles with fibers to absorb heat and speed up the mattress’s recovery, helping it cool down faster than other hybrids in our testing. Its breathable construction also helps it stay cooler throughout the night, with our testers reporting that it sleeps very comfortably.

Helix’s breathable hybrid construction should keep the Midnight cool for most sleepers, but it doesn’t offer the degree of cooling found in our top picks for hybrid mattresses, such as the Amerisleep AS8 and the Amerisleep Embrace. Helix also has a GlacioTex cover available for the Midnight, which could provide even stronger cooling and more slumber-enhancing benefits.
